While students impatiently await the relief of Thanksgiving break and a home cooked meal (and perhaps fill their carts in preparation for Black Friday and Cyber Monday), the very meaning of Thanksgiving can slip under the radar. It can be easy to forget to count your blessings and give thanks for the things that bring you joy -- whether that be family, friends, or your home on The Bluff. To remind our community of their reasons for gratitude, The Beacon has asked students, faculty and staff what they are thankful for and how they plan to spend the upcoming holiday.

On Sunday night, members of the UP community gathered in the Marian Garden outside of Chapel of Christ the Teacher for the dedication of the new Grotto. The congregation from the 8 p.m. Mass came to the dedication alongside all of the campus priests.
As the month comes to an end, some University of Portland students have been spending November celebrating Native American Heritage month. While only less than 1% of UP undergraduate students identify as American Indian or Alaskan Native, the month still provides some students with a time of cultural appreciation and remembrance.
