University of Portland Air Force ROTC Detachment 695 hosted their first Dining-out since 2019. A formal military dinner where Cadre, Cadets, and guests build comraderies, recognize Cadets' achievements, and Commissioning Cadets receive their 2nd Lieutenant ranks or "Butter Bars". This year they had the opportunity to listen to a Medal of Honor Recipient and former Army Ranger, Leroy Petry.

Latinx Student Union hosted the first annual Unity Ball on Saturday. Held on the quiet side of the Commons, festivities included dancing, music and food.

Despite a night-long battle with the Pilot House sound system, UP's first drag show was a success. Hundreds gathered for Pilots After Dark on March 12 to see an electric show from Poison Waters and friends Carlos Ramirez Quezda Meesha Peru, Devlin Lynn Phoenixx, Cody Wojahn Inanna Miss as well as UP students Carter Wolff and Chivon Ou. The show was organized by the Gender and Sexuality Partnership (GSP) club. Many in the crowd agreed that this first drag show on campus should not be the last.
The Campus Program Board hosted the "Into the Jungle" dance on Saturday at the Leftbank Annex near the Moda Center. This was the first dance officially hosted by CPB since February 2020. Did you attend the dance? See if you made it into our gallery!

Pilots indoor volleyball opened the West Coast Conference today at the Chiles Center with an impressive win against the Gonzaga Bulldogs. Pilots won 3-0, with set scores 25-20, 25-17, and 25-19.
Bulldogs controlled the beginning of the game, but Pilots quickly took the lead and maintained it until the end. Highlights of today’s game include 11 kills from junior Jayde Harris, 13 assists from junior Noelani Helm, and 12 digs picked up by junior Grace Zilbert for Portland.
With an exciting start to the conference, the Pilots have hit the road for Malibu to play against the Pepperdine Waves today.

Uprooted from its traditional stomping grounds of River Campus, Riverboat was held behind the Commons featuring a "boardwalk attire" theme. Despite the odds, and increasing COVID-19 restrictions, the Campus Program Board was determined to see the party set sail.

On Wednesday night, Mesa Redonda, Campus Ministry, French Club and German Club collaborated for a celebration of Carnaval in Dundon-Berchtold Hall. Carnaval is a Western festive season that takes place before Lent. In a celebration of cultures around the world, students were invited to partake in homemade Carnaval masks, jewelry making, games and snacks from around the world.
Friday night, the Pure Space was filled with '70s flower children, '80s glam rockers, '90s grunge stars and 2000s celebs. CPB’s annual Dance of the Decades was a raging success as students danced the night away under a twirling disco ball and glittering metallic streamers. When not on the dance floor, students took glamour shots in the photo booth, snacked on hors d'oeuvres and branded themselves with sparkling temporary tattoos. Although the 2020’s have arrived, the past was alive and well last night.
On Wednesday Jan. 29, The Beacon celebrated Student Press Freedom Day with a special photo booth for our student readers. As students filled St. Mary’s for EspressoUP, some took a quick coffee break to join in on the celebrations.
