Other campus buildings remain unaffected, according to Campus Safety.

The estimated restoration time is set for April 17 at 1:15 a.m., and the cause remains unclear.

Campus Safety sent a UP Alert at 10:00 p.m. advising students in affected residence halls to stay inside and avoid using card access doors unless absolutely necessary. They also advised students to conserve battery power on devices and unplug devices that are still connected.

Senior Fields Hall resident Cydney Len says that once the lights in Fields flickered and went out, residents gathered in the hall, confused about what was happening.

“My roommate went out to the door and just opened it, and everyone is out the door going, ‘Does everyone else have power?’” Len said.

Backup generators in Schoenfeldt/Fields Hall keep the hallway and stairway lights on. The power outage which started at approximately 9:18pm impacted a large portion of the University Park neighborhood including on and off campus residence of the university.

Junior Rosana Gutierrez, who lives in the neighborhood near Lund Family Hall, says that she and her housemates are concerned about how the outages will affect their ability to submit assignments on time.

“Hopefully, professors take this into account and extend some deadlines,” Gutierez said.
