Redshirt senior distance runner Matt Strangio and graduate student mid-distance runner Laura Pellicoro each earned second-team All-American honors at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Virginia Beach, VA, over the weekend of March 14 and 15.
Strangio placed 10th in the 3,000-meter with a 7:55.41 time, improving last year’s championship appearance by six spots. He is the first men’s Pilot runner to earn All-American honors since 2016.
Pellicoro placed 13th in the indoor mile with a 4:37.60 time, capping off a historic season, though her time did not qualify for the finals. She is the first Pilots women’s track runner to be an All-American since 2019.
Portland has now had 17 NCAA Indoor Qualifiers, all since 1995. With both runners earning All-American honors, the program has 10 indoor All-Americans.
With the end of the indoor season, the two look forward to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field season.
