Pilots women’s basketball (31-4) took down the Seton Hall Pirates (23-10) 61-55 on March 23 to advance to the quarterfinals of the Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT.)
After trailing the Pirates for most of the match and down 54-46 with five minutes left in regulation, a three-pointer from graduate student guard Emme Shearer spurred a late-game run.
The Pilots took their first lead of the second half with just 2:41 to play off a Shearer layup and held the lead to snag their second win of the tournament.
Shearer led the Pilots with 15 points and six rebounds. Senior forward-center Trista Hull nearly matched her performance with 14 points and six rebounds, and graduate student forward Alexis Mark added 12 points and six assists.
Next, the Pilots will take on the Villanova Wildcats (20-14) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on March 27 at 7 p.m. The Wildcats are fresh off close wins against Boston College and St. Joseph’s University in the tournament's first two rounds.
