On Jan. 23, the School of Nursing and Health Innovations (SONHI) sent an email to all nursing students, faculty and staff announcing updated clinical schedules for nursing students affected by the ongoing Providence strike.
According to the email from the Dean of SONHI Joane Moceri, students assigned to Providence St. Vincent will begin clinicals on Jan. 28, while students placed at Providence Portland and Providence Willamette Falls are delayed until Feb. 10. Clinicals will proceed on a site-by-site basis, meaning clinicals at certain locations will commence on different days.
While awaiting their start dates, students will meet with their clinical faculty to discuss relevant case studies and coursework in preparation for their clinical experience. According to Moceri, the delay will not impact students’ ability to complete mandatory clinical hours.
“One of the advantages of being a student in the split-cohort model is that you have plenty of time to meet course outcomes because, unlike your predecessors, you have the entire semester to do so,” Moceri said in the email.
SONHI is holding an information and Q&A session for affected nursing students this Friday, Jan. 24 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. in the Brian Doyle Auditorium to answer additional questions from students.
