The way you view yourself can have a direct impact on your confidence and self esteem. I fully believe in the importance of having a positive image of yourself. As a photographer I have seen how a good photo can influence a person’s view of themself.

These days, almost everyone has a camera in their pocket at all times. We are seeing photos of ourselves more often than we ever have before. Most of these photos are quick 0.5mm forehead shots or candid moments with friends.

While these are great and often come with special memories attached, they don’t often help with a person’s self-image. This is where a professional photographer can step in to help.

Everyday, we open social media to see celebrities who are living their best lives and looking good while doing it. My goal when I take portraits of people is to make them feel like these celebrities. It’s always extremely rewarding to see when people lose their minds over the completed photos from their photoshoots.

But it’s also often eye-opening to see a side of yourself that you may have never seen before in these photos.

I believe that everyone deserves to have a moment where they feel like the main character for a little bit — and I think that getting professional photos taken of you is one of the easiest ways to do that.

Even if you’re shy in front of the camera or feel like you’re bad at posing a good photographer will help you through those feelings and should make you feel confident in yourself.

If you’re a senior about to enter your final semester at UP, I would like to encourage you to get out there and set up a senior photoshoot with a local photographer. These are pictures that you can look at in the future and wish you had a time machine to go back.

Even if you’re not a senior, It’s always good to have a photo of yourself that you can look at and think, “Wow, I look pretty good here.”
