After four years as the Director of Campus Safety Sara Westbrook has departed from the University.
The announcement was made in an email from Vice President for Student Affairs John Donato on March 1. Donato did not give a reason for Westbrook's sudden departure.
Following this he announced Campus Safety sergeant Michael Kranyak as the interim director of campus safety. Kranyak has worked for Campus Safety for 21 years, and his role as interim director is effective immediately.
Donato maintained that Campus Safety will continue as normal following the transition to Kranyak’s leadership.
“The safety of those who study, live and work on The Bluff is of the utmost importance and the work of the Campus Safety team will continue uninterrupted during this period of transition,” Donato said in the email.
Westbrook came out of retirement in 2019 to work as the director of campus safety for UP. Prior to this, she spent 25 years in the Portland Police Bureau as a Portland Police officer where she held various leadership positions including commander of Central Precinct, East Precinct and the Transit Police division.
The Beacon was unable to reach Westbrook for comment.
