UP has announced it is joining a growing list of other colleges and universities requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccinations for students, faculty and staff this fall.

In an email from University President Fr. Mark Poorman and UP’s COVID-19 Vaccination Task Force, they announced that all students must submit proof of vaccination before Sept. 2 and all faculty and staff before Aug. 2.

The requirement fits in with UP’s long-standing policy of requiring students to have a handful of vaccinations when they enroll, but this is the first time UP has mandated a vaccine requirement for faculty and staff.

Poorman’s email noted that the State of Oregon allows some exemptions from vaccine requirements.

“As with other vaccination requirements, medical and/or non-medical (e.g., religious) exemptions from this policy may be requested consistent with Oregon and federal law,” Poorman said.

UP will also work to help international students and other community members who do not have access to vaccines.

Poorman said that more information on how to submit proof of vaccinations and exemption requests will be made available.

UP plans to hold fall semester primarily in person
