Pilots Roundup: April 5 - April 11

This week in Pilot’s athletics, the baseball team beat the NO. 19 Oregon, both Varsity 8 boats finished in second and the women’s tennis team beat Santa Clara. Here is everything you need to know from the last week.

Rowing

The Pilots competed at the Gonzaga Invitational on April 11 and both Varsity 8 boats finished in second place. The first Varsity 8 finished with a time of 7.09.27 and the second Varsity 8 finished with a time of 7:31.97. The Pilot's next meet is against Seattle University on April 17.

Baseball

Portland went 3-1 this week, with an impressive 6-4 win over NO. 19 Oregon, powered by Sam Brown’s three-run home run. The Pilot's other three games this week were against BYU, with two wins and one loss.

Soccer

The lone men’s soccer match this week was against San Francisco, who they tied 0-0 in a double OT match. The Pilots are now 3-3-3 overall on the season with only two matches left, against Corbin and Saint Mary’s, in the regular season. 

The women’s team lost their game against Saint Mary’s on April 10, 1-0. This now places the team at 3-3-3 overall as they head into their last WCC game of the season against BYU on April 17.

Tennis

The men’s tennis team lost both of their matches this week, 2-4 against San Francisco and 2-5 against Santa Clara. This is the third loss in a row for the Pilots, who are now at 8-5 overall on the season. 

The women’s team lost their game against San Francisco on April 9 with a score of six to one.  Iva Zelic was the only UP player to win a singles match against San Francisco with a score of 6 to 1 in both sets.

The women’s team came back in their game against Santa Clara on April 10 to win with a score of 5-2.
