Gulliver Scott was named the head coach of the University of Portland’s women’s rowing team yesterday. He will be the program’s third head coach as they enter their tenth year as a varsity sport.
The program has been searching for a head coach for nearly three months since former head coach, Pasha Spencer, announced she was stepping down June 15.
Scott has served as the associate head coach of the Saint Mary’s College of California women’s rowing team since 2019 after he was promoted from an assistant coach position.
Scott inherits a Pilots team that, in their one league competition last spring, set a team record with four first-place finishes.
In a statement released by UP, Scott said that he is excited to join the UP community and coach the women’s rowing team.
“This is a dream job for me,” Scott said. “A top-notch academic institution in a small-school setting with a beautiful campus, great facilities, and strong support for athletics.”
