The West Coast Conference Presidents' Council announced on Thursday that fall sports competition will be delayed until Sept. 24 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The decision affects traditional fall sports including men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer and women's volleyball, as well as spring sports that hold non-championship competitions during the fall such as baseball, women's rowing, and men's and women's tennis.
Teams will be allowed to hold other in-person activities like official practices and training. Women's soccer is scheduled to begin official practices on Aug. 4, followed by volleyball, men’s soccer and cross country throughout the rest of the month.
For Portland’s volleyball and women’s soccer teams, there will likely be no non-conference competitions because they are all scheduled for before Sept. 24. The men’s soccer team has one non-conference match scheduled after Sept. 24.
The first competition of the fall season is scheduled to take place on Sept. 24th, when the Pilots volleyball team plays Pacific. By then, it will have been 198 days since the last Pilots game, when the women’s basketball team cut down the net in Las Vegas.
