A candlelight vigil will be held in Chapel of Christ the Teacher for missing student Owen Klinger Thursday, Oct. 10 at 8:30 p.m. Owen’s parents plan to attend the vigil according to a campus-wide email from Vice President for Student Affairs Fr. John Donato. All UP community members are welcome.
Owen, a freshman, has been missing since Sunday night. According to Donato, Owen was last seen leaving Christie Hall, his dorm, around 7:30 p.m. His whereabouts are still a mystery.
Anyone with information about Owen is encouraged to contact Public Safety at 503-943-7161 or at publicsafety@up.edu, or Portland Police at 503-823-3333. Family and friends of Owen also ask anyone with information to contact them at findowenk@gmail.com. Community members can also fill out an anonymous reporting form if they have any information.
“We don’t know what else to do,” Mary Klinger, Owen’s mom told The Beacon. “So, we have more of our friends that are up in the University of Portland area, St. John’s area, a little north from there, a little south from there — people are putting up flyers, people are talking to people, just trying to see if anyone has seen Owen.”
According to Justin Tong, one of Owen’s roommates, Owen was headed to the ATM in the UP bookstore Sunday night. Mary Klinger said Owen made a large withdrawal from his bank account, but it was not all of his money. She did not give an exact amount.
Mary Klinger added that she is grateful for all the help and support the UP and local community have provided for her and her family during this difficult time.
“It’s a big hole right now in our hearts that we want to fill up again with Owen,” Mary Klinger said.
