Finals week is upon us. With final papers, senior capstones, presentations and exams to get ready for, it’s imperative to take a study break. As the Chronicle of Higher Education said, finals week is one of the most stressful time of the week. It’s important to take a study break and take care of your own mental health.
Luckily for you, The Beacon compiled a list of study break events for you and your friends to attend during the last two weeks of fall semester:
Monday, December 4
Stress Less Room
A de-stressing space will be open for students to relax and take a study break. Calming activities such as self-guided meditations and snacks will be available to help you de-stress from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Mary’s Lounge.
The Nicaragua Immersion Silent Auction fundraiser starts at 11:30 a.m. at the Commons and will go on throughout the week.
Tuesday, December 5
‘Tis the season to Network
If you’re dreading career questions over the holiday or people asking what you’re doing next summer or after you graduate, learn how to connect with family, friends and alumni to find a job or internship over break. Snacks are also provided.
The Career Center is here to help you reframe those questions and help you find a job or internship over the break.

“Elf” Movie Night
Following the stress less space the day before, there will be a film showing “Elf” in St. Mary’s Lounge. Enjoy some popcorn and a cozy, relaxing evening of study break.
Wednesday, December 6th
CPB & Espresso UP Beachmas Promotion
CPB is partnering with Espresso UP to bring you unique drinks and a reindeer (yes, you heard that right) from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Free Cathedral coffee drip vouchers will be given away, and Active Minds will also be making stress balls. Join in under the UP Bell Tower to take pictures with reindeer.

Thursday, December 7th
Clean Dream Act Phone Banking
Students are organizing a phone bank to support a clean Dream Act. The bank is open to all students, who can participate in asking residents of Congressman Walden’s district to contact him and ask for a clean Dream Act bill. The event is to show support for DACA recipients. Participants are encouraged to bring cellphones, laptops and tablets in Shiley 123 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Paint by Numbers
Come paint at the Student Alumni House. Follow the numbers and you’ll make a masterpiece. Space is limited, so RSVP to lawyer18@up.edu. Dinner, holiday drinks and desserts are provided from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Christie Pub
Join Christie Hall for its annual Christie Pub charity event. Music, comedy and other talents will be showcased. Purchase a $10 Pub Mug for unlimited rootbeer floats. If you wish to perform, email Ezekiel Delgado-Cervantes at delgadoc@up.edu.

Bells in the Ballroom Concert
Come and enjoy festive sounds of the season presented by Chapel Handbell Choir and Chapel Choir. Beloved carols, ‘sung and rung’ culminating with Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus”, accompanied by members of the UP orchestra. Cookies and cocoa are provided. The concert is free and open for all starting at 7:30 p.m. in Mehling Hall Ballroom.

Advent Concert
During the second weekend of Advent, an Advent Concert, featuring the University Singers and Women’s Chorale, will be held at an off-campus location at St. Mary’s Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception from 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Musical settings will include the Gloria, the song of the angels at Bethlehem.
Admission is free, but tickets are required due to limited seating. For tickets, visit the performing and fine arts office in Buckley Center room 235.

Second week of Advent
Mass times are at 10:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. at Chapel of Christ the Teacher, and at 9 p.m. at St. André Chapel in Tyson Hall.
Beachmas
CPB hosts a night of summer fun and relaxation before finals start in the Chiles Center from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. CPB will be bringing summer indoors (and away from the cold) with roller skating, palm reading, henna, cookie decorating and more. It's the perfect study break for your Sunday night.
