A University of Portland alumna is recovering at Legacy Emanuel Hospital after she was struck by a silver Toyota Camry crossing Willamette Blvd. on the crosswalk by the university's main entrance Friday around 8:20 p.m.
Elisa Reverman, 2017 UP bioethics bowl champion, was listed in good condition as of 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, according to a spokesperson for Legacy Health.
Reverman graduated in May, with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. As previous captain of UP's ethics and bioethics bowl teams, she returned to campus this year to volunteer as assistant coach.
Reverman told The Beacon that she suffered a concussion with some facial fractures, but is awake and in good spirits.
Portland Police Bureau were still investigating the incident as of Friday at 10:00 p.m.
Reverman is not the first to be hit on the Willamette crosswalk. Three students were struck on the sidewalk last February and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. One student was hit Feb. 1 and two students were hit in the same spot two weeks later.
The city installed a new lighting system for the crosswalk soon after the incidents, and just recently lowered the speed limit on the university's stretch of Willamette from 35 mph to 30 mph.
