An empty sedan was left on a sidewalk off Willamette Boulevard in front of Kenna Hall at roughly 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday, according to eyewitnesses. No one was injured.
Officers Dennis Swanberg and Caleb Gayman said that when they arrived, the driver had already fled the scene.
“What appears to have happened is that the driver lost control, ran up on the sidewalk, and for some unknown reason, then fled, so we don’t know where the driver is now,” Swanberg said.
They also said it is possible the driver was under the influence.
As they were walking down Willamette Boulevard on their way to their friend’s house, Freshman Rob Hofstader and Reid McBride heard the screeching of tires coming around the bend. After hearing honking, they turned around to see that the car had swerved onto the sidewalk.
“It didn’t sound like a car hit another car, but it sounded like it could have hit a person. We turn around and the car is just parked on the sidewalk,” Hofstader said.
McBride said that Portland Police showed up roughly 10 minutes later.
“I’m just glad that nobody got hurt and that Public Safety arrived quickly,” McBride said.
