The annual fireworks show scheduled to follow the men’s soccer game this Saturday has been canceled due to concerns for air quality and fire safety.

Campus air quality has reached “unhealthy” levels, according to the Air Quality Index, meaning that exposed populations are likely to experience health repercussions, due to a large forest fire burning in the Columbia River Gorge, and other fires burning in the region.

In addition to the cancellation of the fireworks, Pilot Athletics will be offering refunds or ticket exchanges to anyone who will no longer be able to attend the game, according to Scott Leykam, vice president for athletics.

"The poor air quality and fire outbreak throughout the state of Oregon made the decision to cancel Saturday's fireworks show a straightforward one" Leykam explained.

As of Tuesday evening, The Pilot’s match versus the Cal Bears is set to be played on schedule, with kickoff at 7 p.m. Saturday.
