“As frightening as any film I’ve seen since ‘The Shining’.”
That’s how Newsweek reviewed “The Hunting Ground,” a documentary about the massive problem of sexual assaults on college campuses, and universities attempting to silence victims, that implicates University of Portland’s sister school, Notre Dame, along with hundreds of other colleges across the country.
The film will be screened on campus next Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the Mehling Ballroom. Following the screening, there will be a brief break for audience members to enjoy refreshments and submit anonymous questions to be answered in a panel discussion. The event is being sponsored by the Health and Counseling Center and its Student Health Advisory Board.
The panel discussion will include Green Dot Coordinator Tiger Simpson, associate provost and political science professor Lauretta Frederking, Call to Safety (formerly Portland Women’s Crisis Line) advocate Fawn Livingston-Gray, and Staci Wade-Hernandez and Hannah Hoeflich, who are both counselors in the Health Center.
The screening will open with a trigger warning due to the subject matter, as well as a brief discussion of the importance of the film and its being shown on college campuses.
