The new dorm hall, which was originally scheduled to be open for move-in this fall, will now be opening in two phases, according to an announcement from UP’s Office of Residence Life Thursday.
The new dorm will be an L-shaped building consisting of two wings – Wing A along Portsmouth Ave. and Wing B along Willamette Blvd. Wing B, which will house residents on all three floors, is expected to open on August 19, in time for move-in. Wing A, which will house 92 residents on the second and third floors and feature a community space on the first floor, is expected to be move-in ready by late October.
Wing A residents have been instructed that they will need alternate housing for about six weeks until their rooms are completed. Incoming freshmen with rooms in Wing A will be placed in alternative locations on campus, including in Wing B and in Fields/Schoenfeldt study rooms. Returning students who are to live in Wing A have been given the option to live either in extended living situations with Wing B residents or stay off campus with friends or family, in which case they would receive a pro-rated refund for the unused on-campus housing and their meal plan would remain active.
Wing B residents have been informed that a displaced resident may be moving in with them until Wing A is complete. Any returning Wing A student choosing to live in extended living on campus will receive a $750 extended room credit to their account, as will Wing B residents who receive an extra roommate for the six weeks.
