Dear ASUP,
I remember being on campus in late July, and though the sun was shining bright, the campus felt lifeless. It was quiet, empty, and the anticipation for students to revive the place was immeasurable. The return of students this past August was extremely refreshing. Since then, we’ve had several events and life changing moments. And who could forget exams? If you hadn’t realized it already… we, the students, are the life of this campus. As we embark on winter break, and leave campus alone yet again, I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Holidays!
I realize this is the best part of the year for some of us, but I think it is important to always be mindful of those who aren’t as privileged. As we set off to relieve our own stresses, I wanted to remind myself, and all of the community, that we have the perfect opportunity to relieve the stress of others as well. Wash the dishes for your family, help your younger sibling with their homework, donate your time to the local food bank, or even offer a prayer for all those in the world who need it. We can’t underestimate the impact and power of simple gestures.
We’ve endured another semester together- a truly special one for me. They say time goes faster when you’re having a good time. Well, four years couldn’t have gone any faster. I am grateful to be apart of this community who challenges me not only academically, but personally each and everyday. I will probably have to witness another quiet campus in the next few weeks- this time with rain rather than sunshine. This makes me hope winter break goes fast and slow at the same time. I can’t wait to see you all in 2016!
Happy Holidays & Happy New Year!
With warm regard,
Khalid Osman ASUP President
