Whether you’re new to UP or a seasoned veteran, the registration process for new classes can be daunting. Before the first day of registration on Nov. 9, you’ll want to know who you should talk to and when to do it. The process can be slightly different depending on your major, but Kelly Carder of the Shepard Academic Resource Center outlined the basic process so your registration goes off without a hitch.
- Identify the classes you need. Depending on your major, you will need to take specific classes to fulfill your requirements. Consider using Degree Works provided by UP online at degreeworks-prd.up.edu. The software will show you what classes you’ve completed so far and what you still need to take. Use the “Look Up Classes” feature of Self Serve to find the ones that will fit your schedule.
- Create your semester plan. Once you know the classes you need, plan out your week so that your classes align on the appropriate days and times. This schedule is what you will give to your adviser. The Shepard Academic Resource Center has a step-by-step instruction video on its website to help with this process. Be sure to pick back-up classes in case the ones you select fill up before your chance to register. Monitor the Self Serve Banner and change plans accordingly.
- Meet your adviser. Fill out a registration form and set a time to meet with your adviser. Athletes may receive priority with this process. Once your adviser approves your schedule, you will receive a PIN to use at the time of your registration. To find the date and time of your registration, check the schedule on the registrar’s website.
- Register. Prior to registration, type out the Course Reference Numbers (CRN) of your classes and have them at the ready. At your designated registration time, log in to Self Serve and get the classes you need.
Special instructions by school:
School of Business
Business majors must submit a graduation plan for the following semester to the dean’s office. After the plan is reviewed and approved by an academic adviser, you will receive a PIN and will be able to register. During this time, you may also meet with your faculty adviser to plan out your goals for the future and other career ambitions.
School of Nursing
Nursing students must submit their registration forms to BC 301 by Nov. 6.
After this, you will receive your PIN to register for classes. If you have any problems with registering in the School of Nursing, contact Program Counselor Elisa Majors at majorse@up.edu.
School of Education
Students are asked to turn in a copy of their completed and signed spring 2016 course registration forms to the front office in Franz Hall. If you’re a senior who is student teaching, you can register there. If you have questions or problems registering, contact Maribeth McGowan at mcgowan@up.edu.
