Old and new faces alike have taken on new roles in the UP community with excitement and ambition. From sending students abroad to promoting their well-being on the Bluff, here's what they are looking forward to for the upcoming year:
Joane Moceri - Dean of School of Nursing
Replacing: Joanne Warner, who retired last year after 9 years at UP
Why are you looking forward to this new position? I am most excited to be in a position to lead a department that has so much going for it already, and at a time when the potential contributions of nursing to health care are monumental. Also, the staff and faculty in the School of Nursing are second to none, so we all have the advantage of being able to ask ourselves, “What’s next?” It is quite exciting and energizing to envision a new future for the School of Nursing with such a dynamic team already in place!
Eduardo Contreras - Director of Studies Abroad
Replacing Fr. Art Wheeler, C.S.C., who stepped down from the position last spring
Why are you looking forward to this new position? I’m most excited about working with the the folks here on The Bluff. From my first day on campus, I’ve been greeted with open arms by students, faculty, staff and the Holy Cross Community. The culture of study abroad is strong here thanks to the hard work and dedication of Fr. Art and the faculty who have led UP students abroad over the years. I’m looking forward to preserving that legacy and growing it into the future. I also am drawn to the mission of UP, where the heart, hand and mind of each student is considered in a holistic manner.
David Houglum - Director for Leadership of the Franz Center
Replacing Pete Rooks, who now works as Vice President of People at Ruby Receptionists
Why are you looking forward to this new position? I am excited about creating and implementing educational structures and experiences as well as helping to drive the strategic visioning process for the Franz Center will help motivate students of all backgrounds to become more engaged and serve as active leaders in their local, national and global communities. Through these efforts, my desire is to help transform students into leaders who are able to acknowledge and communicate their strengths and limitations, are aware of the complexities of the process of leadership, are able to serve and lead through developed technical and adaptive leadership competencies and are able to respond to the needs of the world through hope, compassion and leading for the common good.
Margaret Trout - Director of the Health Center
Replacing Paul Myers, who left UP to go into private practice as a psychologist
Why are you looking forward to this new position? I am most excited about joining the team at the Health Center to promote wellness on campus. I am looking forward to learning about the campus culture, meeting students and partnering with them to promote optimal well being.
