Over the past week, college-age males have gone around the University Park neighborhood, claiming to be UP students selling magazines to raise money for a trip abroad.

In an email to the UP community, Director of Public Safety Gerald Gregg said they are not part of the UP community, and neighbors should not engage with them. Gregg also said these individuals should be reported to Public Safety if they are on campus.

Gregg's full email is posted below:

"Members of the University of Portland Community,

"The campus and surrounding neighborhood has been frequented during the past week of college age males purporting to be selling magazines subscriptions. They have claimed to be UP students who are raising money for an overseas trip. This is completely false. They are not students and are not affiliated with the UP in any way. They normally ask for payment for the subscription, up front, in cash.

"I would strongly encourage you to not engage with these persons, let them in your house or residence hall, give them any personal or financial information, or do business with them. If you encounter them on campus please call Public Safety.

"Thank you."
