Why did you choose to play for UP?

I chose UP because it is close to home. It was far enough away that I have some distance, but still close enough for my parents to come see me, and I can go home when I need to.

What has it been like transitioning into this year and the team we are seeing today?

It is awesome. It’s not like it happened overnight - we worked really hard and so it is really rewarding to have this different atmosphere. People last year would ask who practices the most, and usually the response was basketball. Now it’s volleyball, and everybody knows it. Our coaches never let us slack on anything.

In your game against San Jose you recorded a double-double and a career high of 29 kills. How did that feel?

It felt great. The coaches scouted the other team and told us where their weak spots were and where I needed to hit. It is not like I had huge hard swings. We played smart and we won. When we watched film, it wasn’t a flawless game - we still have things to work on - but it is something we can look back on and be proud of.

What are you excited for in your first home game this weekend?

I am excited to not have to travel for a game. I feel like playing at home is such a different atmosphere. We are more comfortable here. My family is going to come, so I am excited to see them. It adds an extra level of excitement.

This is a young team and you are one of four seniors. How do you see yourself taking a leadership role?

It feels weird that I am a senior. I don’t feel like a senior! I am not that old. I try to help the freshmen out, especially with being homesick, and helping them get the routine down. I know that is what I needed as a freshman.

If you didn’t play volleyball, what other sport would you have played?

I played basketball in high school. I was a center, mostly because I was the tallest one. I was a good six inches taller than everyone. I thought volleyball was more fun though, basketball is too much running.

Where is your favorite place to eat in Portland?

I really like the Portland Taqueria, I am going there for dinner tonight actually! Can’t wait for my chicken burrito.

After college, what are your plans?

I think it would be really cool to be a dental hygienist. I mean, I will probably change my mind, but it sounds fun to me!

If you were a character on the T.V. show “Friends” who would you be, and why?

I would probably be Phoebe. I have the most random thoughts sometimes. My teammates will be talking about one thing and my mind goes somewhere completely different. They think my random thoughts are hilarious, but I think they makes perfect sense!
