ASUP President Quin Chadwick gave the ASUP State of Campus Address today at 6 p.m. in Bauccio Commons directly before CPB’s revealing of the Rock The Bluff artists.
In his speech, Chadwick drew attention to the changing weather outside and emphasized how like the campus in springtime, UP is undergoing various changes too.
“Much like our campus’ ecosystem is going through an evolution of life, the UP campus community is going through an evolution of its own,” Chadwick said.
In particular, Chadwick emphasized the many administrative changes within the University this year, particularly the appointments of Fr. Mark Poorman as UP’s president-elect, and Laurie Kelley as vice president for University Relations.
“Evolutions like these at the University are monumental,” he said.
Chadwick also talked about the many physical changes to campus this year, such as the re-opening of the remodeled Clark Library, the impending construction of the Beauchamp Recreation and Wellness Center in May and the continued development of River Campus. Chadwick said plans for River Campus include more practice fields for athletics, relocating Physical Plant, building a new parking structure and possibly a boat house.
However, Chadwick emphasized how UP students are now increasingly concerned with issues of diversity and inclusion, using examples like the campus-wide discussion about the Nondiscrimination Policy this past year.
“To me as student body president, that is what is most apparent,” Chadwick said. “Over my years here, I have seen the drastic changing in student body perspective. We are focused on the individual and we are focused on making our campus as welcoming as can be.”
