For many students, cooking is a chore and making ramen a small triumph. However, it doesn’t have to be. There are many unexpected, simple ways to cook using a microwave. Microwave cooking is an attractive option for those in dorms with limited access to a stove top and oven. It’s also a good option for off-campus students who are just starting to work on their cooking skills.

Microwave Cooking Tips
-
Keep an eye on your food. Don’t punch in the time and walk away. That’s how things burn.
-
Keep in mind your microwave’s wattage and set times accordingly.
-
Understand the quantity and thickness of the food you’re cooking, which will affect cooking times.
-
Have hot pads/towels on hand to take things out: they get very warm.
-
Make sure your plates are microwave safe before starting to cook.
- If things are bubbling, overflowing or smoking, stop the microwave.
