To the Editor: I am very proud of our community at UP. Even after having experienced UP’s deep commitment to social justice for 10 years, I am awed at the process we have just completed in relation to truly integrating LGBT students and staff into the fabric of our school. The first thanks goes to our LGBT students and allies who spoke their truth with both urgency and grace. The second goes to President Beauchamp for building a community process that encouraged dialogue and listening without judgment. We never devolved into a destructive us/them confrontation. Finally, thank you to our Board of Regents for understanding the need for this enhancement of our community. Compassion is at the core of our university’s teachings. We are better people, all of us, when we can participate in the fullness of our humanity.
