I am puzzled, though, how she counts herself, as a woman, a Northwesterner, and a military wife, among ‘deplorables.’
As I understood Mrs. Clinton’s remark, she was saying, surely correctly, that some people who voted for Trump were racist and sexist, which is, seems to me deplorable. She was saying nothing at all about women, Northwesterners and military folks. Mrs Clinton, I would guess, as a former U.S. Senator and Secretary of State, has great knowledge and respect for the brave men and women who serve in the armed forces.
I hope that Mr Trump, with no military experience (and five evasions of service), no civil service in which he would have learned anything about military service and people and a man who issued some sneering remarks during the campaign about how our military are “a disaster” and how he knows more about war than the Chiefs of Staff, will be as respectful and supportive of the brave men and women who serve this country in our armed forces. I especially hope so, considering how many of those men and women are University of Portland graduates and students.
